Statement of Purpose that explains the applicant’s professional goals, research interests and why they are important, preparation for proposed research, personal accomplishments that demonstrate the applicant’s potential to succeed in graduate studies, and why the applicant is interested in the program and faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill.

3. Personal Experiences Statement that describes how the applicant’s skills and lived experiences equip them to conduct research relevant to the field of geography and/or contribute to a positive learning environment through instruction for undergraduate students. This statement should be no more than 1-single spaced page.
4. Optional: Sample of Writing or Academic Work (no more than 10-15 pages) that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to write clearly, to conduct original research, and to set forth a critical interpretation or argument. The applicant may also submit additional materials, such as writing or sample work that is based on relevant professional activities.
