金融工程（Financial Engineering）是一门结合了金融理论、工程原理、数学工具和程序实践建立的一种金融模型，并进而计算金融收益与风险的一门交叉学科。因此，不同大学开设的专业有不同称谓：数学金融、计算金融等。在现代金融实践中有重要的作用。从事金融计算和管控风险的专业人员称为数量分析师（Quantitative Analyst，或简称Quant）。
金融工程不属于工程学传统领域，美国工程与技术评估委员会（ABET）并不认可金融工程学位。该学位受国际金融工程师协会The International Association of Financial Engineers (IAFE) 的认可。*(1)
金融工程是一门交叉学科，通常由大学的商学院、数学系和工程学院联合授课，其课程由于集中于金融领域，所以深度远远超过MBA金融方面的课程，通常包括股票市场分析、投资组合分析、期货和期权、资产定价、资本预算、固定收益分析、利率模型、金融风险管理等课程。
就业展望
金融工程硕士的学习时间一般为全日制1年，同MBA一样，是一种职业教育（Professional Education）而非学术研究教育（Academic Research Education），因此无需撰写硕士论文。其全部课程均围绕金融学的应用展开，具有实用性很强的特点，最适合那些立志于从事金融工作的年轻人。在美国，持有金融工程硕士学位的人才在市场上炙手可热，基本上全部被各大投资银行、基金管理公司、保险公司、风险投资公司所聘用——
